Tellforth vs StoriedLife
StoriedLife (at storiedlife.ai; storiedlife.com is a "coming soon" placeholder) is a browser-based AI biographer called Eva. You speak or type, Eva asks follow-up questions, in more than 30 languages, and the stories are "warmly written" into chapters with a QR code on each that plays your recording. You can add a printed full-colour softcover or hardcover and a private 3D photo gallery. It is sold as a yearly subscription: about $59, $98 or $118 for the first year depending on the book included, renewing at about $89 a year, or an Annual Plan at about $129.95; a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee. It is the nearest competitor in method, and it is a subscription whose book is written by the AI.
What StoriedLife does well
- Voice or typing in the browser, no app to install, with follow-up questions
- More than 30 languages, including right-to-left scripts, with translation and printing in those languages
- Printed softcover (about $49) or hardcover (about $69) up to 200 pages, plus a PDF; a QR code on each story plays the original recording
- Stories are private by default and "always yours to read, export and keep"; a 7-day free trial without a card
- A 30-day money-back guarantee and cancel-anytime terms
Where StoriedLife falls short
- A yearly subscription: about $59 to $130 the first year, renewing at about $89 a year; cancel and you can read but not add or edit
- The AI shapes the answers into "beautifully crafted stories"; their FAQ does not say the teller's own wording is kept
- Their FAQ says the AI "remembers your details" but does not say how it decides what to ask next across sessions
- Their pricing page describes the same plans two different ways in places (which plan includes hardcover), so check before buying
- No guarantee that a finished book results, beyond the 30-day refund
Side by side
| StoriedLife | Tellforth | |
|---|---|---|
| How stories are gathered | Speak or type to Eva in the browser; Eva asks follow-ups; 30+ languages | Voice visits of 15 to 20 minutes with a live interviewer that asks follow-ups, plus a 30-second daily card; no typing, no login for the teller |
| Follow-up questions | Yes, within a conversation; the FAQ says the AI remembers your details | One record of every person, place, saying and story; the next question comes from what is still missing |
| What you get | AI-written chapters with QR codes to the recordings, a PDF, and a printed softcover or hardcover up to 200 pages depending on plan | A designed, finished book: a memoir in the teller's own words, or a novel built on the true story with what was invented listed at the back |
| Ownership | "Every story is always yours to read, export and keep"; stories stay readable after cancelling but cannot be added to | You own every recording and word; export everything free, any time; no subscription |
| Price | About $59, $98 or $118 for the first year, then about $89 a year; or an Annual Plan at about $129.95; extra printed books about $49 to $69 (check their site) | One-time price; no renewal |
| If it isn't finished | A 30-day money-back guarantee from the start of the paid subscription | No deadline and no renewal: the record stays open until the book is finished, and we step in early if it stalls |
Verdict
Choose StoriedLife if your parent tells their story best in a language other than English, wants to talk to an AI in the browser on their own schedule, and a yearly plan suits you. Choose this if you want one price with no renewal, the book in the teller's own words rather than an AI's rewrite, and an interviewer that plans each visit from what is still missing.
