How to

How to write the story of a company, told by the people who built it

Company histories are usually press releases with a spine. The good ones are told by people, in scenes, with the near-death included.

Interview, don't draft

Interview the founder and the first ten people, separately, by voice. Ask what the place looked like on day one, what nearly killed it, who they hired that changed everything, and what they believed at the start that was wrong. The disagreements between accounts are the best material.

Find the question

Every company answers one question for the people inside it. Find it and build the chapters on it.

Keep the voices

Quote people in their words. A company book with twelve distinct voices is a book; one with a single corporate voice is a brochure.

Would you rather talk than write?

We do the asking and the writing.
